Why You Should Support Your Thymus Gland Naturally
“New research shows that a strong thymus gland in adults can help prevent and shape everything from cancer risk to cardiovascular health and it also influences longevity and working how your body responds to modern cancer treatments.”
With new introductions the question arises what I do for a living and when I say naturopath many do not know what that is. Then I say natural doctor and then they answer that is cool. The medical system is engrained into the minds of most people. When it comes to sickness, they have become convinced that drugs are more powerful and that natural solutions to health goes as far as vitamins and herbs and not for treating disease.
I have witnessed the indifference throughout my career: the patient seeks the naturopath, but the naturopath cannot convince the patient. They become open to change only when the medical system fails them. This largely stems from the fact that our health insurance supports the medical system from patient visits to subsidizing drugs. If the patient wants to seek a naturopath, they will need to pay out of pocket.
I believe patients would seek a naturopath as their first line of treatment if they were given equal financial support but because the treatment is unknown for most, they stay with what they know. This approach has been changing, especially since Covid and the lack of trust. The medical system is broken: one in ten emergency doctors are leaving Canada, the wait times for treatment could be years and as a result people are paying out of pocket for earlier treatment.
It is hard to educate people on the importance of prevention; I guess it is because we are creatures of habit. If something is not broken, we do not fix it until it breaks down and then we panic.
We have done newsletters on the benefits of the body’s thymus gland, the little gland that most people do not know they have. If asked, people may have heard about T cells, our body’s immune defense, but they do not see the connection to the thymus gland. Well, the T in T cells is represented by the thymus gland, which is a target for research because of its complex functions and importance for the body’s immune system. The thymus gland processes this broad category of immunologically active white blood cells (the T cells or T-lymphocytes we mentioned above) and these pass through the thymus and become modified before coming to maturity. Thereafter many populations of T cells serve in a complex array of roles: killing invaders, enhancing some immune functions while suppressing others and helping antibody-producing cells to recognize antibody targets.[1] T cells are involved in the entire spectrum of tissue physiology and pathology even as in tissue repair, dysbiosis, eclampsia, senescence and cancer.
We have also mentioned in previous newsletters how the medical system views the mature gland as unimportant and if removed they claim nothing will happen. Little do they know that they are removing a dormant gland needing renewal. If they were taught its importance, they would find ways to preserve it rather than discarding it.
It is true that inflammation or hormonal changes can cause the thymus to temporarily shrink (atrophy), which reduces T cell production and increases the number of cells that die during development. But it is also true that “the thymus demonstrates high plasticity, shaping inflammation by abrogating T cell development and undergoing profound structural changes, and facilitating regeneration and restoration of T cell development once inflammation is resolved.”[2] New research shows that a strong thymus gland in adults can help prevent and shape everything from cancer risk to cardiovascular health and it also influences longevity and working how your body responds to modern cancer treatments.
Glandular Therapy
Glandular therapy has been an important form of medicine since the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. It has a very long history as an important part of the world’s diet, and medicines for the European, Ayurvedic, and Chinese healthcare systems. The main concept of glandular therapy was to support the weaken glands of the patient with reciprocal healthy and young animal glands rich in specific therapeutic nutrients.
Thymus gland extract or “Thymic Protein A (TPA), made from calf thymus, has been shown to have immune-modulating and antiviral properties. It supports helper T lymphocytes, reverses thymus atrophy, and strengthens T cell differentiation.”[3]
“Thymic extracts have been shown to normalize the ratio of T-helper cells to suppressor cells whether the ratio is low in AIDS, chronic infections and cancer, or high as found with allergies and autoimmune diseases like psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.”[4]
In case of thymic injury and degeneration, thymus extracts may provide a solution to chronic viral infections and low immune function. Double blind studies with groups of children with a history of recurrent respiratory tract infections showed that orally administered thymus extracts were able to effectively eliminate infection. The treatment, over the course of a year, also significantly reduced the number of respiratory infections and significantly improved numerous immune parameters.[5]
As a naturopath I have witnessed Thymus Gland with other supportive formulas to improve AIDS, strengthen immunity, treat bacterial infections, Evan’s Syndrome, lymphoma, and various forms of cancer. In clinical practice a higher dosage is needed than what is written on the label.
Life Choice Thymus Gland is a concentrate of the whole gland (not extract) and is derived from organic, New Zealand range-grazed ovine (sheep). The grasslands are non-fertilized, and the animals are not administered feed supplements, hormones or antibiotics. The glands are quick frozen, never exceeding -5°C. Their cellular structure is not damaged and are preserved in a biologically active live state. Source materials are not subjected to organic or aqueous solvents and therefore no chlorohydrocarbon remain as residue in the tissues.
Thymus Gland Testimonials:
“I have a rare autoimmune blood disorder that is manifested with chronic low platelet levels, with crises of platelet crashes, low hemoglobin or neutrophil levels either sequentially or in a duet. Many doctors and hematologists have never heard of it nor treated it, so they guess about the treatment based upon the current crisis. Splenectomy has been suggested, but my spleen is working perfectly, and I found that it doesn’t help for Evan’s Syndrome. In the past, I was originally treated with high dose prednisone; it brought the blood levels back up for a short while, but it caused severe phlebitis in my leg and torso veins. Osteo-necrosis of the top of my tibiae has left me limping in pain. Calcium ripped out of my bones by high dose prednisone, which has been deposited in my arteries and heart, creating angina and 3 x 80% blockages. Low platelet levels also seemed to interfere with my sleep. Chemotherapy worked for about 22 months when I was able to obtain it, but it is not provided by the provincial government nor my health insurance because it is so expensive. The treatment is “off label”: $24,000 per session which I cannot afford. Then I learned about Life Choice. Dr. Dahl’s suggestion of trying Thymus Gland and L-Glycine three months ago has helped my platelet levels climb up to normal levels of around 183 g/dL and my hemoglobin and neutrophils have been stabilized at normal levels for about 2 months. With higher platelets I seem to be able to sleep better, and I have had to reduce my warfarin intake by 30% to maintain a 2-3 INR. My personal care physician says that except for the damage done by the prednisone and needing to lose some pounds, I am now normal for a male my age. My quality of life has greatly improved.” (Bob)
“I used to be sick all the time. Anybody sneezed in ten miles radius, I got immediately sick with out-of-control fever, coughing, sneezing and runny nose, putting me out of commission for weeks sometimes. Then I learned about the Thymus Gland and all the sickness is now in the past. I haven’t been sick like before for about ten years. Thymus is the best thing for me and my immune system. Thank you, Life Choice!”
