Get Ready for the Coldest Season

“Even if DMSO is applied on the feet, hands or the lower legs after frostbite, it can help restore circulation and preserve tissue damage.”

Winter can be brutal when unprepared, especially during the recent polar vortex that blanketed Canada and the USA. From the time it takes to walk to your car or quickly do shopping the cold conditions can be managed, but if you do winter sports, work in the outdoors or if your car breaks down and become stranded on the highways, exposed skin can succumb to frostbite in less than a minute in these extreme conditions.

Just because the temperatures drop in winter there is no reason to stop living your normal life, especially when you have taken precautions for any unknown event. For a safe winter drive, it is advisable to carry the winter necessities in your car.

One item that you may not think of is dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) because it does a lot more than controlling chronic pain; it could make the difference of avoiding frostbite. When DMSO is applied to the feet and hands before exposure, it can prevent the tissue from freezing—this is why they use DMSO in cryonics to preserve the glands prior to transplant surgery since DMSO preserves the glands without creating any tissue burns. Even if DMSO is applied on the feet, hands or the lower legs after frostbite, it can help restore circulation and preserve tissue damage caused from frostbites.

The effects of DMSO on burn wounds and frostbite

Burn injury is one of the main causes of either temporal or permanent disability and death worldwide—according to the WHO data from 2018 an estimated 180 000 deaths every year are caused by burns while several millions require hospitalization and might end up being permanently disabled. Several animal[1] and human[2] studies have shown the positive effects of DMSO which has been proven to be effective in higher wound contraction. It also shortened the time for wound complete closure and decreased inflammatory reactions. “In the case of modification of the burned skin by DMSO solutions or antioxidants – frequency shifts, an increase in the intensity of amide I band as well as the appearance of the 1601cm-1 band can be specific biomarkers of the tissue regeneration process.”[3]

On the other hand, dimethyl sulfoxide could be used on the feet and lower legs to help restore circulation in case of frostbites. DMSO’s first major use was to act as a type of antifreeze to preserve tissue. In one animal study, if DMSO was applied prior to the tissue freeze, damage was practically nonexistent. Humans using DMSO up to 24 hours after the freeze showed total recovery without any gangrene or necessity for amputation. DMSO should be applied within 12-24 hours of the freezing, however, it works even better if applied before. A 70-90% solution seems to work best prior to a freeze. In acute incidents when it is necessary to apply the DMSO after the freeze, a soak may be indicated.

Besides DMSO’s effects on humans and animals, it can also be helpful for orchard growers when frost comes around. Spraying the fruit or young plants with 0.5% solution of DMSO has saved plants experiencing 4 hours of 20°F weather.

Medicinal grade DMSO works as a natural transporter of nutrients into the bloodstream, while reducing inflammation and swelling by decreasing inflammatory chemicals and improving blood supply by dilating blood vessels and increasing oxygenation among others. DMSO is an effective painkiller, blocking nerve fibers that produce pain and healing scar tissue, soft tissue injuries, sprains, acute bursitis, diabetic neuropathy, and arthritis.

The beauty of such a product like DMSO is that it can be combined with other well known healing nutrients, such as vitamin C. When combined, the synergistic force becomes much more powerful than either product on their own. I must add caution: not any vitamin C can be used since 90% are produced from GMO corn, which have buffers, binders and flow agents, and you do not want these additives in your bloodstream. For transdermal applications only use Pure Vitamin C—each capsule contains non-GMO ascorbic acid and nothing else. Open one capsule and mix with small portion of DMSO. It is great for canker sores, abscess, bruising, burns, toothache, colds, etc.

According to the book written by Dr. Morton Walker, DMSO: Nature’s Healer, DMSO is a simple by-product of wood and has been called a “miracle” drug, capable of relieving pain, diminishing swelling, reducing inflammation, encouraging healing, and restoring normal function. In this book, Dr. Morton Walker examines the powerful and compelling case for the use of DMSO in the treatment of many debilitating disease and health-related problems. He cites documented cases of its amazing use in healing and prevention of a host of health disorders, including arthritis, stroke, cancer, mental retardation, and sports and auto injuries. Of course, not all DMSO is equal so only use licensed medicinal grade DMSO since many DMSO products are unlicensed and being promoted as medicinal grade but instead they are solvent grade, sold in bulk, originating from China with no safety factors in place.

Besides DMSO, do not forget about other things in case of extreme cold weather. According to Government of Canada,[4] the following items should be included when preparing an emergency kit for your car:

  • Food that won’t spoil, such as energy bars
  • Water—plastic bottles that won’t break if the water freezes (replace them every six months)
  • Blanket
  • Extra clothing and shoes or boots
  • First aid kit with seatbelt cutter
  • Small shovel, scraper and snowbrush
  • Candle in a deep can and matches
  • Wind‑up flashlight
  • Whistle—in case you need to attract attention
  • Roadmaps
  • Copy of your emergency plan

DMSO Protocols

There are many protocols for its use, our label claims from Health Canada are for transdermal use only. According to the DMSO book, Nature’s Healer by Dr. Morton Walker, they are claiming it can be used both internally and externally, as it is fully transdermal. It should be noted that when DMSO is applied transdermal it enters the bloodstream within seconds.

If DMSO is in its pure state, it may be too strong, it may need to be diluted to prevent skin redness and prickling sensation, begin with a small amount then increase once familiar with the reaction. This symptom of DMSO is due to action upon the skin barrier as it moves through the skin into the tissues and blood increasing localized circulation. This is why we must make sure the skin is clean and toxin free before its use.

The following protocols are taken from Dr. Walker’s book, Nature’s Healer.

Burning: a solution with 20% preservative free aloe vera juice or caster oil can be used in order to reduce the sensation, and to accelerate the effectiveness open a capsule of specific  professional grade vitamins or minerals mixed into the DMSO to drive the nutrients into the local area you are wishing to treat.

Pain: use it as locally as possible.

Parasites: Use internally, take 1 tsp of 99.995% pharmaceutical grade DMSO in 1 ounce of aloe vera gel juice and 3 ounces of distilled water, reverse osmosis water or fresh spring water daily. There are protocols where you can mix it with nanoparticle free colloidal silver, pure vitamin C, black walnut, few drops of oregano oil, clove oil and or caster oil. If you are trying to rid yourself of parasites it takes time, parasites can adapt to treatment for survival.

Colon: You can also use it in an enema to treat the colon. Prepare a warm water enema and add 2 dropper full of the diluted DMSO. Ideally, it is wise to first perform a room temperature, distilled water enema before this procedure.

Gum Disease and Tooth Infection: Use it as a mouthwash. Start with 1/8 oz DMSO, 1/8 oz Hydrogen Peroxide, ½ tsp. of baking soda, 1/4 oz distilled water pure or partly mixed with aloe vera, swish and spit twice a day.

Sinuses: Use a neti pot: prepare a warm, saline solution and add 10 drops into the neti pot and make sure to apply to both sides. You can also add 1 teaspoon Real Salt to this mixture.

Castor oil packs: You can do a castor oil pack with DMSO and two capsules of Pure vitamin C over your liver. Rub it over your abdomen a few times a day. You can do castor oil packs for 20 minutes with heat and then apply the diluted DMSO over top if you are working to clear a blockage or assist to reduce a tumour.

Blocking and Preventing Pathogenicity Viral Risk: Add 30 drops of DMSO liquid into a 50ml bottle of Colloidal Silver spray (20% ethanol), shake well and spray once into each nostril and once in the mouth. Reduces the pathogenicity risk of COVID-19 by up to 88%.

Clinically studied on front line Covid-19 healthcare workers, intranasal inhalation spray may destroy the viruses’ structure, break the virus transmission chain, and reduce the pathogenicity risk. Nasal spray composed of DMSO and ethanol causes total turmoil in the breeding and replicating virus herd inside the nasopharynx and throat. Study was performed at the Shahroud University of Medical Sciences in Iran.[5]

In this world nature has given us the necessary tools to keep us healthy for life, it is the environmental toxicity, pharmaceutical drugs, the lack of quality food and water and synthetic vitamins posing to be a solution that is preventing this from happening. It is our goal to help you find the pathway, through all the chatter, to renewed health and peace of mind.
