Recent studies have found that dementia and Alzheimer’s statistics may be more complex than originally thought. The role of Neurotransmitter Support is now more crucial than ever.

This wonderful recipe is a feast for brains in need of restoration, providing the optimum combination to facilitate the transport of vital nutrients into brain cells, and assist in re-establishment of neuronal function.  And it’s a healthy snack for an aging brain, as well, giving it all the essentials necessary to support our mood, memory, and cognitive abilities, which tend to slow down as the years pass by.
Just like any fine, multi-functional computer, your brain requires all its elements to perform correctly and fluidly.  It is entirely electro-chemical in nature, and scientists are increasingly leaning to the conclusion that the roots of many psychiatric illnesses and mental health problems might be found in brain dysfunction.  This just makes sense: a tiny piece of code can mess up a fine computer, but with the right code reinstalled, the computer resumes normal operation.  The same can be said of the brain, its need for proper nutrition, and the concept of feeding the brain what it most needs, in order to restore and maintain the brain in its best possible condition.

Investigators are examining children with ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and adults with bipolar disorder and depression, along with a variety of other psychiatric conditions and types of cognitive impairments. Conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), MS (multiple sclerosis), MD (muscular dystrophy), all inhibit cell function and hinder the brain’s responsiveness to stimuli.

Brain energy metabolism is very important to normal brain function, so it’s no surprise to find that this factor is reduced in Alzheimer’s victims and other dementia patients: the greater the loss of energy, the more severe the dementia.  Neurotransmitter Support’s precision formulation acts to improve brain energy metabolism, and with it, brain function.

Ensuring optimal intake of key nutrients such as vitamins and antioxidants throughout one’s lifetime may be an important wellness strategy to help prevent brain diseases and prevent the decline in our cognitive abilities. Approximately 6-8% of all persons aged 65+ have developed Alzheimer’s disease, and the prevalence of this disease is increasing. The current research lends further support to the use of antioxidants and a vitamin enriched daily dietary supplement program to help support the brain function as we age.

Life Choice Neurotransmitter Support’s impressive list of ingredients includes:

ACETYL-L-CARNITINE – In a 2010 Tokyo study, the aged rats were supplemented with Acetyl-L-Carnitine to determine its effects on memory, learning capacity, and brain synaptic functions. For 3 months, 344 rats were given Acetyl-L-Carnitine (100 mg/kg bodyweight). At the end of the study, the scientists concluded that Acetyl-L-Carnitine increases synaptic neurotransmission in the brain and consequently improves learning capacity in aging rats.

R-ALPHA LIPOIC ACID (R-ALA) – R-ALA reduces cataract formation, and reduces oxidative stress in the heart muscle while raising levels in the heart and liver. It also lowers glucose levels by increasing insulin metabolism and decreases numbness in Diabetics, increases energy levels within the brain cells, can decrease LDL cholesterol and remove protein oxidation for a healthy heart, and inhibits free radicals more effectively than vitamin E.

L-THREONINE – Threonine is an essential amino acid and not synthesized by humans. Threonine supports cardiovascular, liver, central nervous, and immune system function. Threonine combines with the amino acids aspartic acid and methionine to help liver digest fats and fatty acids. L-threonine has been tried for ALS because, like BCAAs, it affects glutamate metabolism. Open trials and one double-blind study have shown some short-term improvement in symptoms. The research also demonstrated that symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), another disease that affects nerve and muscle, are alleviated with threonine treatment. Threonine is an immuno-stimulant, which promotes the growth of thymus gland.

L-TYROSINE – L-Tyrosine has been proposed as a treatment for various conditions in which mental function is impaired or slowed down, such as fatigue and depression. It has also been tried for attention deficit disorder (ADD). Preliminary evidence, including small, double-blind trials, suggests that tyrosine supplements may help fight fatigue and improve memory and mental function in people who are deprived of sleep or exposed to other forms of stress.

PANTOTHENIC ACID – Pantothenic acid is used in the manufacture of hormones, red blood cells, and acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter (a signal carrier between nerve cells).

CO ENZYME-Q-10 – “C0-Q-10” prevents oxidation of the cell membrane and mitochondria within the cell, thereby preserving youthful neurological function, and protecting the capillaries from becoming fragile;  it also enhances cerebral oxygenation.

METHYLCOBALAMIN – The neurologically-active form of vitamin B-12, Methylcobalamin is effective in slowing the progression of untreatable diseases and neurological aging.  Japan’s scientific literature reveals 334 published studies on methylcobalamin; the studies consider the treatment beneficial for any neurological disease. For example, in patients with MS their cynocobalamin is destroyed, and methylcobalamin attempts to reverse this process.

DMG (DIMETHYLGLYCINE) – DMG is a dietary supplement which supports the immune, circulatory, and cardiovascular systems.  It is useful for controlling epileptic seizures, and for improving neurological functions, as well as muscle recovery and endurance. DMG is a nutrient that is found in the cells of both plants and animals. The human body produces DMG in very small amounts. Supplementing the diet with higher levels of DMG greatly improves the nutritional environment of the cell. DMG has been found effective in supporting immune system function and better utilization of oxygen at the cellular level.

GABA (GAMMA AMINO BUTYRIC ACID) – The ability of the limbic system and the rest of the brain to communicate in an orderly manner depends critically on inhibition.  GABA inhibits the cells from firing, diminishing the anxiety-related messages from reaching the cortex. GABA, glutamine and glycine are vital for energy and the smooth running of the brain functions.  B6 (pyridoxine) is GABA’s most important partner.

If you experience headache, muscle tension, affective symptoms, drowsiness, insomnia or confusion, discontinue use. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

D.M.A.E. (dimethylaminoethanol) is normally present in small amounts in our brains.
When supplemental amounts are used, DMAE is known for its brain function enhancements.  It is a naturally occurring nutrient found in seafood, such as anchovies and sardines–just like the old saying that fish is brain food.

DMAE helps elevate mood, improve memory, increase cognitive and learning ability, also physical energy.

Many people will take DMAE for its mild stimulant effect, yet DMAE helps most people fall asleep, sleeping more soundly, and having less fatigue during the day.  DMAE has the ability to enhance brain functions at the higher level and can compensate for various neuropsychological deficits ranging from cognitive processes to aging itself. DMAE greatly reduces the lipofusion from brain and nerve cells and is able to cross the blood brain barrier.

DMAE has proven to be a safe alternative for such learning and behavior problems as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Hyperkinesias. Other conditions for which DMAE is useful are chronic fatigue, mild depression and confusion.

DMAE may also add spice to one’s sex life. Dr. Eric Braverman, brain and aging specialist and author of The Healing Nutrients Within, says that aging affects all parts of the body linked with sexual function, both internally and externally. In men, greater physical stimulation is required to attain and maintain erections, and orgasms are less intense due to brain, hormonal, and vascular factors. In women, menopause contributes to sexual decline, partly as a result of physical symptoms like vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and weight gain. DMAE is a precursor to acetylcholine, a key neurotransmitter. This is why DMAE can also be found in our Neurotransmitter Support.

To improve your sex drive, optimize the following neurotransmitters:
• Dopamine for Desire
• Acetylcholine for Arousal
• GABA for Orgasms
• Serotonin for Resolution

According to Dr. Braverman, since DMAE is a precursor for the brain chemical acetylcholine (responsible for arousal), it’s believed that people with low brain levels of acetylcholine are unable to concentrate on sex, hence disrupting the normal arousal process.

An important note: there are no reports of DMAE dependency, like that of prescription drugs.

The adrenal glands rest just above the kidneys. These glands secrete cortisol, and stimulate our bodies to produce progesterone and testosterone, among other hormones. Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands function below normal levels. Stress can cause adrenal fatigue. There are a variety of supplements, including vitamins, minerals and hormones recommended to ease adrenal fatigue. Information about supplements and recommendations cited are from James Balch, M.D., author of Prescription for Natural Healing, Avery, New York: 2000.

Adrenal fatigue can have any of a number of symptoms. Signs to watch for include but are not limited to increased cravings for salt, heightened PMS, depleted energy and lessened sex drive.

The benefits of Desiccated Glandular Tissue include fat loss, muscle building, better digestion, and other improvements often taken for granted. Glandular therapy “works” because it is said to increase the tone, function, and/or activity of the corresponding gland, which in turn benefits the entire human system.

Our glandulars are concentrates (not extracts) and are derived from New Zealand range-grazed bovine. The grasslands are non-fertilized and the animals are not administered feed supplements, hormones or antibiotics. In New Zealand, animals that have been treated with growth hormones are always marked and processed separately from non-treated animals, ensuring that organic sources are never mixed in with non-organic. The glands are quick frozen, never exceeding -5C. Their cellular structure is not damaged and is preserved in a biologically active and live state. Source materials are not subjected to organic or aqueous solvents and therefore no chlorohydrocarbon remain as residue in the tissues.

The rise of antibiotics has contributed to the decline of pharmaceutical glandular therapy research. However, just because the glandular approach is no longer popular for these clinical studies does not invalidate the usefulness of the approach or diminish the validity of its therapeutic value. In fact, while it is considered Alternative Medicine (which is not generally recognized as effective by the medical community at large) in the United States, glandular therapy is one of India’s largest branches of Ayurvedic Medicine (a 2,000 year old system of medicine based on a holistic approach).

The concentrates, once taken from the animals used, are known clinically as protomorphogens. They provide immediate as well as long-term benefits. Glandular therapy is useful if a patient’s endocrine system is under-producing or under-secreting a specific hormone. It can also be used when an organ is weak or diseased–for example, such is often the case with cancer patients. Because glandular therapy is generally effective for those diagnosed with a terminal illness, it is also recommended for preventative measures. Another principle behind the benefit of glandular therapy is that glandular tissues are rich in many nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, polypeptides, enzymes, and many other substances, and this is another reason why they work. The tissues work with all other products and foods you ingest. In this sense, glandular therapy can supply your missing essential nutritional needs in a highly efficient manner. For a tissue cell to repair or replace itself, it must have the raw materials to do so. Glandular therapy provides these raw materials to your weakened organs, glands, and other tissues so that they can start the process of regeneration.

We have also supported our glandular with calcium ascorbate, this is vitamin C buffered with calcium. Stress and anxiety affect the adrenals. When this happens, vitamin C and calcium act like shock absorbers. In both stress and anxiety, urinary calcium has been found to increase, meaning that the calcium in the body is decreasing. Because calcium stores deplete when stress hits, it is important to provide an extra buffer.

Gotu kola is also in this formulation. It has a significant history in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as a treatment for anxiety and depression. In one trial, 40 people were split into two groups, one receiving 12g gotu kola, and the other receiving placebo, to determine the effect on anxiety. The gotu kola significantly decreased anxiety within 30-60 minutes when compared to placebo.

In conclusion, if stimulated even slightly, many of the healthy hormones found in our glandular tissues can begin their genetic tasks as they did before. For example, a small polypeptide material present in one tissue can have selective effects in encouraging another tissue at a different site in the body to produce hormonal materials, which then may affect a final target tissue and change its physiological function. This domino effect can happen only if target-specific polypeptides from specific organs are present. Life Choice works meticulously to ensure that our products will produce these desired results.
